Dr. Anthony G. Avitabile Jr. is a respected board-certified family physician, a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and a proud U.S. Army veteran with 15 years of service.
With over 34 years of clinical experience, Dr. Avitabile is widely recognized in the Chattanooga medical community for his commitment to comprehensive, patient-centered care.
He has particular expertise in diabetes management, insulin resistance, hypertension, geriatrics, and full-scope family medicine, caring for patients across all stages of life. Known for treating every patient like family, Dr. Avitabile is deeply passionate about preventive care and long-term wellness.
As the founder of River City Family Medicine, PLLC, Dr. Avitabile has the privilege of sharing his life’s work with his family. His wife of nearly 35 years serves as the practice manager, and they work side by side to ensure a caring and well-run environment for patients and staff alike. Together, they have four exceptional children and two beautiful grandchildren, with hope of more in the future.
Their children have followed in their footsteps. Dr. Brianna Avitabile-Brown, DO, “Dr. Bri,” their middle daughter, will officially join the practice in September 2025, and their youngest daughter is currently in her second year of medical school.
Dr. Avitabile’s dedication to his patients, family, and community makes him one of Chattanooga’s most trusted and experienced family doctors.
Dr. Brianna Avitabile-Brown, DO

River City Family Medicine proudly welcomes Dr. Brianna Avitabile-Brown, affectionately known as “Dr. Bri,” to our practice. A board-certified family physician and Chattanooga native, Dr. Bri is thrilled to return home with her young son and join her father, Dr. Anthony G. Avitabile Jr., DO, in continuing the tradition of compassionate, community-centered care.
Dr. Bri graduated from The Baylor School and completed her undergraduate studies at Austin Peay State University, where she earned a degree in Chemistry while playing collegiate soccer—her first love and lifelong passion. She later attended Lincoln Memorial University—DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) in Harrogate, Tennessee, for medical school. Dr. Bri completed her residency training at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.
She is board-certified in Family Medicine and dedicated to building long-term relationships with patients of all ages. Dr. Bri brings a fresh perspective, deep community roots, and a heart for holistic care to every patient interaction.
Outside the office, she stays active and finds time to play soccer. Dr. Bri is honored to care for the families of Chattanooga and looks forward to growing her practice here at River City Family Medicine.
Alyson Marter, MSN, FNP-C
Alyson Marter, MSN, FNP-C, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner at RiverCity Family Medicine, PLLC. She applies her extensive family medicine experience and warm bedside manner to help her patients in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Alyson started her journey into nursing by attending Cleveland State Community College, achieving her Associate’s of Science Degree in Nursing in 2010. She immediately began her career as a registered nurse on a telemetry/medical-surgical unit. Alyson then obtained her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga in 2016.
She continued to work as a registered nurse at CHI Memorial Hospital, where she served as one of the core charge nurses for nine out of the ten years she was employed there. During that time, Alyson was recognized as the Nurse of Excellence in 2013. She was also awarded the Heartbeat of the Unit and a few Daisy awards.
In 2017, Alyson pursued her Master of Science Degree in Nursing at Walden University and graduated in 2019. She holds a certification through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as a family nurse practitioner. She is currently working as a circulator in the operating room at Erlanger Hospital.
Alyson is happily married with two boys and a dog. She loves going to the beach and enjoys spending time with her family. She is passionate about providing the best care to her patients and always aims to do so.
