Anthony G. Avitabile, DO
Anthony G. Avitabile Jr., DO, is a highly skilled and compassionate physician who provides exceptional health care to his patients at RiverCity Family Medicine, PLLC, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Dr. Avitabile graduated with a Bachelor of Science from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California, where he also received a Master of Science in microbiology. He earned his medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, where he appeared on the National Dean’s List and was inducted into the Sigma Sigma Phi national osteopathic honor fraternity.
Dr. Avitabile went on to a transitional internship at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and spent the next ten years on active duty in the US Army Medical Corps. In the Army, he achieved the rank of major and earned the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He maintains a deep appreciation for the opportunity to care for his fellow veterans. After his military service, Dr. Avitabile completed a residency in family practice in an East Tennessee State University program in Chattanooga, and he stayed in the city to begin practicing medicine.
Dr. Avitabile is board-certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians. His patients and his peers regard him for his extensive knowledge of and focus on diabetes. He’s passionate about the well-being of his patients and believes in treating them like they’re his own family.
Dr. Avitabile has the privilege of sharing his love for medicine with his family. His wife of nearly 30 years is the practice manager at RiverCity Family Medicine, PLLC, and works alongside him daily. Together, they have four amazing children and one beautiful grandchild, and they look forward to having more grandchildren in the future. Their children have followed in their footsteps, with their third child in medical school and their youngest on the undergraduate premed path.
Alyson Marter, MSN, FNP-C
Alyson Marter, MSN, FNP-C, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner at RiverCity Family Medicine, PLLC. She applies her extensive family medicine experience and warm bedside manner to help her patients in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Alyson started her journey into nursing by attending Cleveland State Community College, achieving her Associate’s of Science Degree in Nursing in 2010. She immediately began her career as a registered nurse on a telemetry/medical-surgical unit. Alyson then obtained her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga in 2016.
She continued to work as a registered nurse at CHI Memorial Hospital, where she served as one of the core charge nurses for nine out of the ten years she was employed there. During that time, Alyson was recognized as the Nurse of Excellence in 2013. She was also awarded the Heartbeat of the Unit and a few Daisy awards.
In 2017, Alyson pursued her Master of Science Degree in Nursing at Walden University and graduated in 2019. She holds a certification through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as a family nurse practitioner. She is currently working as a circulator in the operating room at Erlanger Hospital.
Alyson is happily married with two boys and a dog. She loves going to the beach and enjoys spending time with her family. She is passionate about providing the best care to her patients and always aims to do so.
